July 2, 2016 - I didn’t wake up at 4:30am like I planned but still got up early and was hiking by 5:45am.

The mosquitos were still bad in the morning so I packed up quickly. I passed by lots of little ponds so I could see why the mosquitos were so bad.

The first 8 or 9 miles were in the woods with just little up and downs so made for fast hiking. Then I came out into the open for some views of the surrounding area then back in the woods, this happened for awhile.

Right around my lunch break I came close to a lake. I was hoping the trail would go right next to it so I could jump in but no luck. Again I could have walked a little extra off trail but I never like doing that. Plus I wanted to get into town before everything closed for the day.

After lunch it was 11 miles to the road to take me to Sierra City. A quick downhill followed by a short uphill then the last 8 miles mainly downhill. Some parts were rocky so made it hard to hike on but I stayed on my feet, no falling.

Right before the road I crossed this cool looking bridge that cross a nice flowing stream.

At the road it was only 1.5 miles to town. I tried to hitch but no luck, so I ended up having to walk the whole way.

Once in town I pitched my tent in the churchyard next to the store where I picked up my mail drop. They had just closed the grill so no burger so I just purchased a bunch of junk food. The rest of the evening I sat on the porch and ate. Also, I had access to the store's wifi on the porch so I was able to upload pictures and my blog. As it started to get dark I went back to the church where I was able to take a shower in the bathroom right next door at the visitor center. That was an interesting place as the bathroom had a shower and toilet in it with no divider.

After cleaning up and packing up my food from my mail drop into my food bag I was off to bed. It’s been a long 3 days of 97 miles, so I may sleep in and take tomorrow easy.
